How to setup RankMath SEO plugin with features review

RankMath SEO plugin is one of the best and only a single plugin available with premium features free of cost. With the help of the RankMath search engine optimization plugin, you can easily optimize your content with built-in features.

Other SEO plugins like Yoast SEO Plugin, All In One SEO plugin are the competitor of RankMath. RankMath was launched in 2019, but it is the top plugin available with many premium features, which we didn’t get in others.

If you are using Yoast SEO plugin then you can simply import all data and settings in RankMath with just a single click.

But, if you are not a user of Yoast or want to set up without importing the settings from Yoast SEO or you want to use RankMath in your new website then scroll down for the details.

1. Download RankMath SEO plugin

If you want to use the free version of RankMath then you can download RankMath from the WordPress plugins market.

But, for RankMath Pro you have to go to the official website and buy Pro Plans of RankMath.

After installation of RankMath you can follow the steps below:

2. Connect Free Account

After installation, you will see this screen to connect your plugin with your free RankMath Account. You can skip this step, and the same process will repeat in the Analytics step ( Connect with Google Services).

But if you want to connect your RankMath free account, click on “Connect Your Account” and follow the process.

You can log in with Facebook, Google Account, WordPress account and custom email and password in RankMath.

3. Select Mode in RankMath Setup

Easy Mode: Easy mode is for those who want to keep the default settings by RankMath with only basic settings that the users can change.

Advanced Mode: If you are an advanced user and know which settings are good for you, you can select advanced mode. With advanced mode, you can control the SEO aspect of your blog or website.

Custom Mode: All the settings you can customize with this mode and can control and set up according to your requirements. Custom mode is available for only pro users of the RankMath SEO plugin.

We recommended an advanced mode, where you can control and change all SEO aspects of your website.

After selecting the mode, click on “Start Wizard“.

Note: Later, you can change the mode in Rankmath. To change the mode in RankMath, follow the steps below.

Login to admin dashboard > Click on Rankmath from the side menu bar > Setup Wizard.

4. Select the type of your blog or website

This is the second step, and here you need to select the website type and images for Google and Social media.

Website type: There are a few options that are available to select. Select your blog or website type from the dropdown list. 

Logo For Google: You need to upload the logo image for Google images. Try to upload the image in high resolution (1920×1080). If you don’t have the picture in 1920×1080, you can upload between 160×90 and 1920×1080. But, try to keep the same ratio as recommended.

Social Share image: This image will be used to publish the post without a featured image or OpenGraph image. On Social media platforms like Facebook, your blog post will be issued with this image as a thumbnail. The recommendation size of this image is 1200×630.

5. Connect with Google Services

This is a very important step in the setup of RankMath. You need to login in RankMath and connect the plugin with your free or Pro account.

When you click on “OK, ACTIVATE NOW”, You will be asked to log in with your Google account with permission to fetch data. One screen will come to connect with your Google services like Search Console, Analytics and AdSense.

If you already have your property (Site) in the search console, all the sites will become in the dropdown list and select the related one. If your website is not on the list, you can check the guide on “How to add a website to Google Search Console.”

Same as before, you have to select the account with the name from the dropdown list, which you have in Google Analytics. When you choose the account, RankMath will fetch all the property and select your property from the “Property” Dropdown list.

Select your property and in view select ” All web site data”.

Some Key Points:

  1. if you already have the analytics code in the header.php, then you don’t have to on “install analytics code.”
  2. If you need cookie less tracking and track anonymized IP addresses and self-hosted analytics js code to use in your website, then you need a RankMath pro account.
  3. When you activate the “Exclude Logged-in user, ” your activity will not come in analytics if you are logged in.

Link with Google AdSense is also available in RankMath. Select the account and the site. But this feature is available for pro users of the RankMath Plugin.

6. Sitemap Settings

In this step, you can customize your website’s sitemap settings. Activate the site map with images.

By default, all the options are activated, and we recommended keeping the same settings and just clicking on “Save and Continue.”

7. SEO Optimization

Here you can see the options for activation and deactivation for ” Noindex Empty Category and Tags archives”, Nofollow External Links”, and ” Open External Links in New Tab/Window”.

Keep the default settings, but you can change if you want to activate or deactivate any option. Click on the “Save & Continue” button.

8. Advanced Option

The RankMath setup is completed, but here you can find a “Setup Advanced Options” button.

You can directly go to the dashboard, but if you want to set up some advance options, then scroll down.

Role Manager

You can change the permissions for different roles in your website or blog. If you are a single admin or user on your website, keep this option deactivated.

But, if you have multiple users on your website ad you want to set the permissions for them, you can change the permissions from here.

404 Redirection

If you want to track and monitor the pages with 404 errors, you can watch the pages by activating the “404” monitor”.

By activation of ” Redirection”, you can redirect your pages. RankMath will activate one option in settings, and you can set up temporary or permanent redirection.
